Phenix iGaming Solutions Series Day One: Precision Timing

Written by Bill Wishon | Jan 12, 2025 11:32:38 PM

Over the past few months leading up to ICE Barcelona, taking place from January 20-22, 2025, Phenix engineering has been hard at work delivering new platform features that create significant value for the iGaming industry. Each day this week leading up to the conference, we will dive deeper into the following 5 capabilities which enable secure, compliant, and engaging real-time gaming experiences:

1. Monday --> Precision Timing & Synchronized (Fixed) Latency

2. Tuesday --> Phenix Access Manager (PAM)

3. Wednesday --> Multi-View Ops Dashboard with QOS Statistics

4. Thursday --> More Resilient Geographic Infrastructure

5. Friday --> Bandwidth Management

In the first installment of our iGaming solutions series, we explore how Phenix's timing and synchronization capabilities provide the foundation for compliant iGaming operations.

Mastering Video & Data Synchronization for iGaming

In the high-stakes world of online casino gaming, timing isn't just about speed—it's about precision and compliance. Different game architectures create varying timing challenges between video and data streams. Phenix offers two powerful capabilities that work together to ensure perfect alignment and timing verification.

Integrated Timecodes: Comprehensive Timing Management

Our Integrated Timecode system provides the foundation for precise timing management across your entire gaming operation. It enables:

  • Frame-accurate timestamps for every video frame and game event
  • Detailed audit trails linking dealer actions, player decisions, and outcomes
  • Time-based reconciliation between video playback and game events
  • Verification of video-data synchronization for each viewer
  • Precise timing alignment when game data arrives before video, holding data until the exact matching video frame
  • Complete temporal reconstruction of game sessions for compliance review

Our current supported timecode format is 264 SEI Timecodes, with KLV timestamps next up on our roadmap.

Synchronized (Fixed) Latency: Precise Video Timing Control

When video streams arrive ahead of game data, Synchronized Latency enables operators to precisely control video delivery timing to match their data feeds, ensuring:

  • Configurable video delay to match specific data latency requirements
  • Consistent delivery timing across all players and geographic regions
  • Prevention of timing discrepancies that could impact game fairness

Together, these capabilities give operators comprehensive control over timing precision. The combination of configurable video delivery and detailed timing verification helps operators maintain game integrity and prove compliance in regulated markets where milliseconds matter.
